39 Jerseys Later...
So another Jersey Live has come and gone. Another weekend of music, cider and over-priced food. For the 7th year in a row I had an awesome time.
It's interesting how the Festival has evolved. From the first year where you could waltz to the front barrier during the performance for Razorlight to the change to a 2 day Festival and now the multiple stages with a variety of different acts. This year it seemed to be only a few minor tweaks but the toilets seemed better positioned and drinks lines only seemed to be a problem in the Cider tent. I can't comment on the queing issues as we had arrived earlyish both days but I have to say the full body searches on pretty much every person seemed a bit much. Especially when the security guards took Paul's chewing gum. Confusing. I have heard some people complain about waiting for food but again I didn't experience this myself. Maybe because I opted against buying food on the Sunday after a confusingly worded sign led to me spending £9 on a Burrito and Wedges at Amigos on Saturday. Having recommended this stall in the past I can now safely stear people away from these rude and obnoxious rip-off merchants.
The main thing about a Music Festival always has to be the music. As I mentioned in my brief Festival preview there wasn't actually a huge amount I was looking forward to. The exception to this was Biffy Clyro and as expected they absolutely rocked it and for me were by far the best band of the weekend. I also have to say Paul Weller was far better than I was expecting and had everyone going pretty crazy with 'A Town Called Malice'. Professor Green managed to put on a more than competent live performance which can often be difficult when you're performing songs with lots of samples and rapping. The video above is Darwin Deez who put on an incredible performance including a number of dance breaks inbetween songs (Including a crab dance!). I would like to see more bands doing this in future. Can you imagine Thom Yorke shouting dance break and Radiohead then busting some choreographed dance moves to an ABBA song on the mainstage at Glastonbury? I can. Away from the Main Stage the Jersey bands provided plenty of entertainment on the Wild West Tease Stage (Which also had a very accessible bar!). Shout outs to The Mulburys, Hold Your Fire! (Who are playing at the 02 Arena next month! Nice one), Brave Yesterday, Frankie Davies and Hiphoperation who I admired from a distance. In my mind Rhodri Hart is the perfect spokesperson for Pear Wine.
I must also congratulate Tinie Tempah on saying 'Jersey' a whopping 39 times during his less than 30 minute set that included a Taio Cruz song. Hold me closer Tinie Tempah.
All in all I quite enjoyed freedom from my usual single minded desperation to see a long list of bands. It was enjoyable to just wander around and experience the Festival, sit on the grass and drink St Helier Cider. In this respect the glorious weather certainly helped. I think my energy levels are now recovering and I look forward to next year. Hopefully I'll see you there.
Peace,
Steve

See You Latte

Hey Kids
As most of you probably know Nic and I are heading off on our travels tomorrow. That means I won't have much time to catch up on this blog. What's new you may ask in a sarcastic tone? Fuck You, I've been really busy. The Jersey Summer was an absolute blast especially the last couple of weeks where our visitors popped by and of course Jersey Live took place. Any other Jersey-ites I would recommend having some foreigners over if you're ever feeling burnt out on Jersey life. Looking at it through their eyes it forces you to realise that despite the negativity of a few loud mouthed grade-A wank stains (I'm looking at you Senator Stuart Syvret. What you gonna do? I'm the other side of the world... Or at least I will be soon) it's actually a pretty fucking cool place to live. Basically I'm going to miss you guys... except you Sam Tannahill.
But whilst this may be a goodbye it actually means you're going to get more bloggage than usual just in a different place (Think of it as IVF blogging rather than the balls deep penetrative sex blogging your used to - the same basic thing in a different way). And after that elaborate and confusing sentence I think you should probably just go there and bookmark it yourself:

It already has a lovely pretentious Mark Twain quote so enjoy that and soon it'll have details of all our crazy adventures.

PS - New Gallery is out. The column continues. It'll be in October too but in a reduced form. Maybe November? We'll see.

Nixon Gets Loose
It's an update which means I must have something to shill!! Yes another issue of Gallery is out and this month I'm rambling about Christmas movies, serial killers and making outlandish claims about Kevin Bacon's role in Frost/Nixon. I also take it hard to Batman & Robin with the kind of angry rant only a comic book fan could write. For those not lucky enough to live in Jersey it is available online at www.gallerymagazine.co.uk and is on page 62 I think.
Thanks to all who have read the issues so far and told me how much you enjoyed them. Your compliments feed my massive ego and keep me cranking out the words. Gallery has a month off in January but returns in February with Dodgeball action and extra mega sized Team Cobra action!?!
Finally, what is it with people voting for fat faced children? Einogh from X-Factor you don't murder Busted (not literally) in front of millions of people and escape my scorn! Worse than him though is 21 year old Jersey deputy elect Jeremy Macon who ran under the pretenses of being a voice for Jersey's youth and then once elected allowed his Mother to answer his e-mails and debate policy. She then revealed that their family had decided that he should run instead of her because he was a better speaker. That doesn't make things OK, people did not vote for the Macon family (YOU ARE NOT THE KENNEDYS!) It's like Obama after election allowing a bitter old Republican to represent him. In conclusion, Jeremy Macon you are a massive tool and a ridiculous fraud. I want my vote back (even though you didn't win that one)
Peace

No Fat Chicks?
Jersey has been in the news over the past couple of days and for once it's nothing to do with child abuse. No this time it's still about abuse but abuse of a far more serious kind... Abuse of fat people. If you haven't heard about it yet, check the story out here->
Jersey Club Tells Fat Women To Go Home
Up to date now? Good, let's continue. After initially defending his decision and then backpeddling and apologising club owner Martin Sayers now claims his judgement was clouded by his emotion over members of his friends and family he has lost to obesity related problems... It's all so clear now, Martin isn't some sort of discriminator, he is a crusader. Some might call him a hero. His story is the stuff Hollywood legend is made of, his story is Oscar worthy, his story has given me an idea...
COMING 2009...
ONE MAN SPENT HIS LIFE BATTLING WEIGHT PROBLEMS
NOT JUST HIS OWN, BUT THOSE OF THE PEOPLE AROUND HIM
''Why Mummy why? Why won't you stop eating?''
''I love you Helen but you're eating yourself into an early grave!''
''Mr Sayers. I'm sorry but your Dog has Diabeties.''
''Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!''
FINALLY PUSHED TO THE LIMIT
HE'S TAKING HIS FIGHT TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC
''Go and lose some weight before you can come in – fat people are bad for business.''
''But we just want to drink and dance and have some fun.''
''YOU SHALL NOT PASS!''
FROM THE PEOPLE WHO BROUGHT YOU 'COWBOYS & GIRLS' AND 'DANCING QUEEN: THE SAM TANNAHILL STORY'
A STORY OF ONE MAN FIGHTING FOR THE SURVIVAL OF THE HUMAN RACE IN A WORLD THAT DIDN'T UNDERSTAND HIM.
NO FAT CHICKS
So whaddya think? Rejected titles include 'Are you Havana Laugh?' and 'Sayers Ain't So'. I was thinking of casting Vin Diesel as Martin Sayers and Kate Winslet as love interest and rival Helen Hunter. Also I'm pretty sure Eddie Murphy will insist on putting on his fat suit and playing all the fat people in the film as soon as he gets wind of this. A guaranteed Box Office Hit, I've always thought Vin deserved a statue.
Peace
Steve
